The PS3's Hardware is superior in every way I can think of, however it's all about the content and games.

Re: GTA4 Anyone?
Jon I've read that the failure rate of the Xbox is 16%-33%. The quality of the hardware is a joke, I just hope my 3rd xbox is a charm.

Failure rate
I went ahead and tried to search for failure rates on all of the video game consoles, and I have come to the conclusion that the internet lies. A majority of the reports for xbox 360 showed a failure rate of 16.4% but claims are anywhere from 3-5% to some saying 50%. Both PS3 and Wii have a failure rate of about 3% which is under the general 5% failure rate for electronics in general. Though some say that the PS3 has a failure rate of 40% which I am not buying. I couldn't find a failure rate for the PS2 or the original xbox everything on those two was astronomically high. Most likely casualties of the Fanboy war raging between Msoft and Sony.

Re: GTA4 Anyone?
The only time I have ever had trouble was when my Xbox was sandwiched between a TV and the entertainment center and it gave me one Disc read error. Talking with Jon, I know that me and Jake both have the Elite and there are some saying that it has improved components. I love the system, but probably have not played it as much as Kiss Kiss and Potter.
But I am for sure going to buy it for the Xbox 360.

Re: GTA4 Anyone?
About half of the people I know who have 360s have had hardware issues. There is a guy here at my work who is on his 8th 360, I'm starting to think his house must have bad/dirty power.

Re: GTA4 Anyone?
I wonder if the visuals will be stronger on the PS3 or the 360. It was built ground up for both as far as I know, which means neither console will get the crappy ported version. If you look at DMC4, that was a similar title as far as production for either system, and the PS3 has a fair an edge visually (I did a head to head with the demos on my TV) as far as texture work, anti aliasing and general lighting/contrast. The 360 image was a hell of alot brighter for whatever reason. (could have been the component connection?)
Anyway, the multiplayer is going to be huge and my brother killed his internet connection. Out of everyone I know the only people who are playing this online are the few people on this thread and it sounds like the 360 is a win.

Re: GTA4 Anyone?
Good choice Mike and now that we have this forum we can schedule and report our many cops and robber games. Please check this out.
1Up Has Tech interview with Rockstar
IGN does a great story about the features of multiplayer.
I think that multiplayer is going to be huge.

Re: GTA4 Anyone?
There is incredible detail in the physics, I even noticed that shooting a barrel can cause a jet of liquid to spurt out and gradually decrease in range as the pressure reduces or that knocking into a pedestrian can cause them to drop their shopping so that cans roll down the sidewalk. Do these fine detail physics get the same level of attention as the key gameplay mechanics such as driving and running?
SR: Well key things that we need to get right for the game to be fun, like the car handling, get the most attention of course! But aside from those special systems, most of the other cool details come from just getting the basic systems working well. So we spent a lot of time making sure that the building blocks were there for the props guys and the effects guys to make lots of interesting and cool objects to put in the world.

That is freaking insane!

Re: GTA4 Anyone?
So I watched the IGN video head to head and the PS3 slightly outshines the 360 version in mostly the same ways as DMC4. First, the antialiasing on the PS3 has a several passes beyond the 360, which gives you a nice smooth image and the framerate is more dependable. On the controll side the reviewer mentioned liking the PS3's analog controll much more noting that it was a much smoother experience overall in that sense. If you've ever heard me complain about MGS, this was my only complaint that the PS2's controllers sucked ass and weren't accurate. Also, the inclusion of motion sensetive controlls with the sixaxis are a big plus. You can drive ride or fly every vehicle in the game with the sixaxis and also bowl and play pool using it. The one positive the 360 had over the PS3 was appearently generally more vibrant colors and a stronger image contrast, although the reviewer mentioned that there was enough controll to significantly adjust the image on either system and that this wasn't really an issue at all.
There you have it, I'd rather own the PS3 version. However, I'm still planning on getting the 360 version for multiplayer which is as much of it's own game as MGO will be.
Oh and you can get ejected from your car if you're in a violent wreck. It's pretty much the most badass thing ever watching Niko fly from the car about 30 yards and try to catch himself as he rolls and tumbles arcoss the road (new physics engine that implements AI in it's physics). Check out the gametrailers.com review here to see what I'm talking about.
