kathylee wrote:Well guys lets look at this practically, Zombies are already dead, so you can't really kill them:
First, we need to prepare with the Zombie Survival Guide
Second, choose a Wal-Mart -- I pick the Lindon one, central location for most of us and its newer than the gross Orem one.
Next, we need to learn how to garden -- I rock at killing plants so I nominate Zach to be the gardner, he seems like he has a green thumb eh?
After that, you guys out there need to find other girls...cause me and Chelsea can't be the only girls.
We could probably easily have a nice long, ongoing society in our Wal-Mart, given that no one opens the doors or windows, not for anyone. Gosh, if we've learned anything from all those horror movies, is that you don't care about anyone but your friends who are already in there with you.
You could be the only girls, but we don't want to kill Mike and Brandon... unless some stray Zombie comes wandering in one night and bites both of them. Then we would have to.
PS I love to garden.
PSS We would be the only ones alive. Because we are that awesome.

Chainsaw?
Shotguns?
Flame Throwers?
What would be your weapon of choice?
Chainsaw... one of my favorites! the biggest problem is that they are messy, and gas is a commodity that just cannot be wasted on the 'saw.
Shotguns... Best close range weapon ever! Problem, close range. I don't want to be up close and personal with them at all, so while I will always have a shotgun on my back, I hope to not use it that often.
Flame Throwers... the only thing worse that a Zombie, is a flaming Zombie. According the Dr. George A. Romero, if you, "Destroy the brain... the body will die."
Preference?
Rifle, the more distance that you can put between you and the Zeds, Zacks, Zombies, or whatever you want to call them, the better. I nice scope and rifle could mean the difference between getting overrun or not. Of course, for pure badass-ity, a scope may not be best, example...

you are going to need a high calibur rifle and a crack shot to actually remove the head from a distance. i would think that in your Wal-Mart scenarion (by the way, zombie nightmare survival may be the only redeeming quality of the mart) you could make any number of MacGyver style explosives and attach them to projectiles. this gives you distance and maximum carnage. this is key to zombie survival.

I'm not sure about the stragetic soundness of the walmart plan. I personally would hold down at the University Mall. They have lots of mannequins that you can use as decoys for your traps. Sadly they don't have the cutlery corner for sharp weapons, but there are enough kitchens knives you could use. Plus you have the added bonus of a radioshack for all of your super McGuyver needs. Spread some Cinnabun sauce at every entrance to slow them down, then again having so many entrances is a down fall.
Anyway, just thought I would throw that idea down. Plus if you raided games people play you could make a Settlers game with 1000 tiles. Come one role that 5, I have 37 Ore coming to me, come on 5's! No 7's!

Donknottz, good point except a Mall is such a bad idea. There are way too many entrances, its just not practical. Plus I can see the mannequins as a negative in that they would scare the living daylights out of everyone, anytime you walked by one. Remember how totally freaked out you were when you watched I am Legend, and thought the mannequin was going to kill him? Well, maybe not you guys, but I was...no thank you on the mannequins for me!
Sorry I just have to disagree...the mall is a hugely bad idea.

I would have to go with staying mobile. You are eventually going to find some where that is not infested. I think that the mall would win out if you could complete destroy the ability to get to the second floor.

The mall isn't a wonderful location, but neither is Wal-mart. We know that if there are any other survivors they may get desperate and try to find supplies. Guess what the first place they are going to think about raiding? Costco! and then walmart. I think that is a bad idea to be around crazies. If zombies attacked I would go Rural. Far far away from everything and everybody.

Re: What is the best way to kill a Zombie?
So if you think about going mobile or good places to hide until things "die down"
what about the water option. Can I launch a houseboat into Utah lake? I can't think of any movies where zombies were great swimmers and even if they are the water might . . . rekill them. Or mutate them into something worse. But It might be easier to shoot them with Don von Don's rifle as they float towards me. On that note, I don't know what you are saying about shotguns and close range. That's one of the best features, you can hit anything from far away and it's affective. Just how much of a zombies head do you have to shoot off before it no longer is able to come after you. I think at least a double fister in size chunk needs to be taken off, or their head needs to look like a peeled bannana.

Obviously the best possible scenario is rural... but, for short term, a wal-mart/costco is defendable and you can build up your supplies.
