I can't think of any movies where zombies were great swimmers and even if they are the water might . . . rekill them. Or mutate them into something worse. But It might be easier to shoot them with Don von Don's rifle as they float towards me. On that note, I don't know what you are saying about shotguns and close range. That's one of the best features, you can hit anything from far away and it's affective. Just how much of a zombies head do you have to shoot off before it no longer is able to come after you. I think at least a double fister in size chunk needs to be taken off, or their head needs to look like a peeled bannana.

Water- zombies don't breath, so they can stay underwater indefinitely, which allows them to walk on the bottom until they find an anchor to climb up and BAM! half of your survivors are knocked out in 1 night because Mike fell asleep on watch.

Shotguns- The accuracy of a shotgun at long range is poor. Granted with a solid slug instead of buckshot you might have a longer distance, but the devastation factor is lost with the change of ammo. At most you are looking at 50ft for a consistent kill range.

Zombie- As long as you destroy the brain, so a clean shot through the head will do the trick. But, don't get alarmed if one of your shots goes through the head and doesn't kill the Zed because it is possible to skip off of the skull and not destroy the brain.

I think it is a waste of time to go to a store like walmart unless you only plan on spending a few minutes there. It isn't familiar, and the threat is too high. Especially when you consider the amount of people that were in the store when the outbreak occured.

No place will ever be safe at first. However, Wal-mart has a good selection of things including firearms and produce and seeds. You also have a limited amount of entrance points which allows you to secure the place, then you clear out the store and fortify.

You need to be smart about this and use your surroundings to your advantage. If we were to hold up we would have the potential benefit of several resources:

Food
Ammo
Condoms
Gasoline or other flammable liquids

Walmart is a great idea for all but a few reasons. It has a sturdy warehouse roof that cannot be climbed onto by mindless zombies and beyond that it has only two main entrances and I believe a garden entrance, an auto entrance, a back entrance, and several docking bays for truckers. The front entrances would be somewhat difficult to barricade. The others, however, would not. Shelves can be moved utilizing the strength of several survivors (and warehouse equipment). I'm fairly certain two shelves against each other would hold off a zombie or even several or even a hoard of zombies, but we'd have enough shelving to assign three to each door if necessary.

A second key to survival is an escape plan. We could easily create a platform up above several shelves where we could take out as many zombies as possible before escaping on a rope to the roof (where they couldn't follow). From the roof we could have a zip line set up to the car where we could make our final escape and get back on the road.

What about this bad boy for keeping zombies at bay?

I found a simple weapon that could possibly be made out of stuff at walmart, but in it's current design I think it would only annoy them. What about Acid filled balloons getting launched out. Then again, would acid be effective against them, or would it just take too long to get to the brain.

Side note: the guys testing this gun are good zed bate as they aren't too bright testing it a foot away from their car.

all the pain ray does is make it painful for whomever is in the ray's beam. It would have no effect on the zombies at all. If they do attack I am not going to wal-mart with you.

Well said Don, I didn't even recognize that potential use. Then we can attach that giant cage that holds the over sized bouncy balls on a long pole that rattles down and traps them . . . but only after a mannequin dives into a swimming pool. http://ggee.org/blog/2007/05/20/maker-faire-giant-mouse-trap-game/

Don you know there are going to be people trying to take over what ever base/supplies we have, the ray gun will set them straight...down the throats of Zombies as they are hunched over in pain.
